These are the three candidates who have obtained the endorsements for the presidency of the RFEF.

Today is an exciting day for the world of football in Spain. Throughout the day, the RFEF Electoral Commission, formed by María Rosa Rodríguez, Ana Ballesteros and Jorge Enrique Núñez, will proclaim, albeit provisionally, the candidacies received and a period will be opened for the presentation of appeals. The latter must be resolved within five days before the Administrative Court of Sport (TAD).

On Monday 16 December at 12:00 noon, the name of the president-elect will be known, provided that at least 21 of the 142 members of the RFEF's General Assembly have provided endorsements. Five days after FIFA and UEFA confirm that Spain will host the 2030 World Cup along with Portugal and Morocco.

Following the Luis Rubiales incident, the RFEF called a ballot in April to remove him from the presidency and Pedro Rocha was then elected as the sole candidate to replace him with a total of 107 endorsements, out of a possible 138. However, the judicial conflicts surrounding Rocha have invalidated him for this position. As a result, more powerful rivals have emerged, fighting for the post. 

Among them, the president of the Valencia Football Federation, Salvador Gomar, the president of the Extremadura Football Federation, Sergio Merchán, and the president of the Galician Football Federation, Rafael Louzán. As reported by El Confidencial, Gomar, who appeared to have given up his intention to stand in the elections, the Valencian has come out with five more endorsements that he had received from the assembly members of his community and stood with 26. 

However, it is said that from his region he is denounced that these extra endorsements were blank and that they were addressed to the president of the Galician federation, Rafael Louzán, as the barons had agreed in their idea that everything would remain inside the RFEF bunker. Louzán is the big favourite, who has presented his candidacy with the support of 55 endorsements.

These elections could mark the history of the RFEF, as, if more than one valid candidacy emerges, it will be the third election with more than one candidate in the last 20 years. The last such case took place in 2004, when Ángel Villar was re-elected against former secretary general Gerardo González and former player Sebastián Losada. In 2018 Luis Rubiales became president by defeating Juan Luis Larrea.
